NOTE: All of these references are ok. The restriction on "variants of variants" (participants manual, p. 25) concerns making references from every combination of elements. For these examples:

S. Francesco
We don't make a reference from "Irsina (Italy). San Francesco (Church)" (now, we don't even make the local place reference at all for churches but it was ok in 1993). Some might argue that the third reference is unnecessary too but DNGA has based it on literary warrant.

Muller-Ury
We do not make references from the variant forenames under Ury.

Victors
We do not make references from all possible forenames under each of the variant surnames, e.g. not from Fictor, Jan; Fictor, Johan; Fictor, Hans; Victor, Johan; Victor, Johannes; Victor, Hans; etc. etc. One could argue that a reference from Victor, Johan could be justified by literary warrant.

Applying the restriction on "variants of variants" includes some judgment. Victors is an example of what could clearly go way overboard if you did all forenames with all surnames.
