Looking ahead to CAA 2005:
Several caucus members and QUEERART list readers are in the early stages of planning an open exhibition at a bookshop or other venue during the conference in February in Atlanta. The contact person for the exhibition is Adam Waterson at artistboi@speakeasy.net. It is anticipated that those not attending CAA will be able to participate. Watch the list for more information.
Please let the editors know if you are presenting a paper, exhibiting in the CAA members exhibition or another show in Atlanta during the conference, etc. We will try to list all member participation in the annual conference.
Looking ahead to CAA 2006:
As an affiliated society of CAA, we are given a time slot for a business meeting and for a shorter panel during an off-time. We have usually requested and received a lunchtime slot for that panel. Laurie Toby Edison is working on the lunchtime panel for 2006. In addition, we may sponsor a panel proposal though such a panel must go through the approval process and is not automatically accepted. The caucus officers have endorsed a panel proposal for 2006 from Peter Holliday entitled “Classical antiquity and the expression of queer desires.” While it is too early to submit paper proposals to the panel, it is not too early to begin thinking of possible papers in this area. Details will follow in future issues of the newsletter and on the QUEERART list.
The 2006 conference will be in Boston and the 2007 conference will probably be in New York City.

A national election will take place in the U.S. in November. Significant issues are at stake. At least three of our colleagues are currently facing harassment at their jobs, in part because of sexual content in their art or teaching, or because of their sexual orientation. Constitutional amendments are proposed in Congress that would limit the right of states to allow same-sex marriage. Perry Brass has lost his PayPal account status because individuals are depicted touching each other on the covers of his books. PayPal has also gone after such gay sites as GayWebMonkey and Gaywired.com. cf. Lambda book report, Aug.-Sept. 2004, p. 50 Many other issues, beyond the scope of this newsletter, are at stake. We encourage eligible voters to vote in November.
