Letter from the
Caucus Co-Chairs

We’re stepping down this year as co-chairs of the Queer Caucus at the end of our two-year term. We want to thank Sherman Clarke and Tee Corinne for producing this newsletter, and Sallie McCorkle for her work as treasurer and for maintaining the membership list. We are grateful to them, too, for agreeing to continue doing this work that really keeps the Caucus going.

New co-chair elections will be one important event at the Caucus business meeting at the CAA annual meeting in Philadelphia. After soliciting nominations through our email list, and some subsequent methods of persuasion, we are very happy to report that two individuals with extensive organizational experience, Maura Reilly and Jim Saslow, have agreed to run for the co-chair positions. However, the nominations are still open. So if you would like to nominate someone else or yourself, please send us an email (katzartfag@aol.com or erand@bates.edu); you may also nominate someone at the meeting itself.

Contact us, too, if you have items you would like to put on the agenda. We already have a lot to talk about, including forthcoming caucus conference panels, exhibitions, and other events; short-term and long-term projects; and ongoing political matters both within and outside art and academic institutions.

If you can come to the conference, attend the business meeting. We have a lot to discuss, work to plan -- and people to meet, of course. (On that note, don’t forget the panels and the reception, for lubrication of all sorts.) If you can’t come, let us know what you want discussed and how you want to volunteer and we will be happy to sign you up. While we hope you attend Caucus events when you come to the conference, we’re all well aware that prohibitive costs, among other issues, make attendance at annual meetings often impossible. Staying in the mix, though, is totally possible. In any case, please get involved in helping to determine the course the Caucus will take over the next few years ... and in making things happen by offering some time (and paying some dues). The Caucus is yours.

We’ve enjoyed our co-chair stint. Thanks for having us.

Erica and Jonathan
